Mistake management in a foreign language classroom

The aim of the thesis is to design general recomendations on mistake management in a foreign language classroom which would meet both teachers' and learners' requirements and methods of mistake management in a foreign language classroom which would contribute to development of learners' communicative competence. The following methods were used in the research: analysis of literature on pedagogy, psychology and methodology of foreign language teaching, interview, questionnaire and observation. Thirteen general recommendations and fifteen methods of mistake management in a foreign language classroom which contribute to the development of learners' communicative competence were designed as a result of the research.

This bachelor thesis focuses on Radio 1, its history, its programming format and specific language devices used by the presenters. The aim of the thesis is to identify and describe distinctive features of broadcast, which create "the identity" of Radio 1. The broadcasting scheme is not based on a previously scheduled playlist, as the presenters define the choice of music themselves. Their manners of moderating are essential for the analytical part of this thesis. In the first chapter of the analysis, the deviation from the Czech language standard is noted. The second chapter compares two programmes (Odvážné Palce - Radio 1 and Čelisti - ČRo 4 - Radio Wave) from three perspectives: the structure of content, language devices of the presenters and interpretations of the programme. Both radio station share similar programming format and both programmes are of the same genre and focus on the same theme. The conclusion presents the summary of distinctive features, which contribute to create "the identity" of Radio 1.

The influence of online media language on language of print media for example "Lidové noviny"

This thesis focuses on the influence the language of online media has on the expression of printed media on the example of Lidové noviny newspaper and the Lidovky.cz server. In the theoretical part, this work describes media product and content, style and language of news reporting and opinion journalism, the selection of language devices which are further defined, and the editorial preparation of texts. The empirical part offers an insight into the operation of the newsroom of Lidové noviny and of the server Lidovky.cz and marks their connectedness as well as their differences. Furthermore, this work identifies the language devices appearing in news reporting both local and foreign sections based on a qualitative analysis. Singular language devices are investigated in printed Lidové noviny newspapers from years 2014 and 2019 and in the content of the Lidovky.cz server. The research sample consists in the case of Lidové noviny of the first Monday issue of each month in the respective years. Comparisons within the framework of the specific language devices appearing in the selected research sample are then provided based on the results and their interpretation. Analysis of speech of sports commentators

This bachelor thesis deals with an analysis of the speech of sports commentators. Specifically commentators of live ice hockey matches. The theoretical part includes a note on mass media as an inseparable part of live broadcasting of ice hockey matches, and on sports journalism. It also comprises a characteristic of national language and language devices. The practical part of the thesis is devoted to the analysis of spoken expression of sports commentators on a lexical level. Specifically it is focused on the occurrence of the selected language devices and their classification. The source for the practical part will be selected matches from hockey championships from four time periods (the 1960s, 1980s, 1990s and the present).

On the translation of The Thunderstorm by Vladimir Nabokov

The diploma thesis offers an analysis of a unique set of texts. The analysis explores the language devices used in the composition of the texts. The set of texts includes a short story Groza by Vladimir Nabokov and its translations. The short story was originally written in Russian, and then translated by the author into English. There exist two Czech translations, one from Russian, one from English. The thesis presents a theoretical framework for the analysis. It is composed of two parts. The first one summarizes the most frequent translation related changes in meaning. The second one compares Nabokov's theory and practice of translation. The theoretical framework is applied to the comparison of the target-language texts with the source-language texts, as well as to the comparison of the two translations from different source-language texts. Comparison of the results of the analysis with the hypotheses stated in the Introduction affirms the movement of the meaning towards stylistic neutrality and shows the influence of the source-language upon the target-language. On the other hand it rejects the statement that Nabokov as a self-translator wanted to preserve the literary qualities of the text, being ready to sacrifice its language qualities. Politeness in Communication of Women and Men

The bachelor thesis deals with the issues of politeness in communication of women and men. The focus is on three types of communication situation, which differ depending on the gender of the communicators: 1) communicators are only women, 2) communicators are only men, 3) communicators are both men and women. The theoretical part of the thesis deals with delimiting communication, politeness concepts and social roles. The work is delimited towards Grice's cooperative principle in relation to Leech's concept of politeness. The aim of the bachelor thesis is to compare the theory and the approach of individual linguists with real displays of politeness in common communication on the basis of a questionnaire. Special attention is given to the characteristic of language devices used in polite communication; the use of language devices by males and females is compared. An integral component of the work is correlating the differences in the conception as well as in the display of politeness in men and women with the differences in the language perception of the world of a man and a woman.
